The 9th Airlift Squadron is a United States Air Force unit based at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The squadron operates the C-5 Galaxy, one of the largest military aircraft in the world, and provides global airlift support for the Department of Defense, as well as humanitarian missions and disaster relief efforts. The 9th Airlift Squadron has a long and distinguished history, dating back to World War II, when it operated C-47 transport planes in the European theater. Over the years, the squadron has participated in numerous missions, including strategic airlift in support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Today, the 9th Airlift Squadron remains a vital component of the United States Air Force's global mobility mission.
